The international online gaming and sports betting company Interwetten celebrated its 35th anniversary on 22 October at the Westin Dragonara Resort in Malta. The celebration brought together employees from all the countries where the company operates, as well as partners, collaborators and prominent figures from the sector.

Interwetten was founded in 1990 in Vienna, Austria. Since its inception, it has been a leader in the sports betting industry, first by providing services by post and later by taking a step further with the introduction of telephone betting, thus beginning its commitment to innovation and technological adaptation.

In 1997, Interwetten made history again by becoming one of the world’s first online sports betting platforms (it even landed on the Internet before Google). In this way, the company opened a new chapter in the digital experience of sports fans and responsible gaming.

The company has continued to grow over the decades by adding new products and services:

  • In 2004, it launched its online casino, expanding its entertainment offering.
  • In 2006, a skill games platform was added as part of its commitment to innovation.
  • In 2012, it began operating in Spain under a licence from the Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), strengthening Interwetten’s presence in regulated European markets.

Over the years, Interwetten has also distinguished itself through its commitment to sport and solidarity, signing major sponsorship agreements with top-flight football clubs such as Sevilla FC and RCD Espanyol in Spain, and VfB Stuttgart and SCB Untersiebenbrunn in Germany and Austria respectively. The world of motor racing has also been part of the company’s sponsorship activities, notably the agreement with the now defunct Lotus F1 Team, which competed in the world championship of the premier class of motor racing, and the Interwetten Paddock Team, a motorcycle racing team led by Thomas Lüthi. In addition, it has promoted various charitable and social responsibility initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to the most needy causes.

Today, with a presence in different European countries and a multicultural team, Interwetten celebrates 35 years of achievements, development and pioneering spirit, reaffirming its commitment to continue providing gaming experiences that are safe, exciting and technologically sophisticated.

The commemorative event in Malta was not only intended to proudly remember the past, but also to glimpse the future of a company that continues to focus on innovation more than three decades after its founding.
